Day In The Life – SAH/WFH Dad 12/11/24

So I’m going to try something here for a few weeks and see how it goes. Not sure if I’ll be able to keep up with it, or have enough interesting things happening but we’ll find out.

I’ve missed the gym the past two days and was itching to get back. Sunday night I went to bed knowing that if I woke up and was still super sore I was going to go back to bed, sure enough that was the case. Tuesday morning I slept right through my 3:30am alarm and woke up at 5:45am. I was going to try and get on my treadmill during lunch but got too wrapped up with work to get out there. It’s not really a big deal, I’ve been thinking of taking some more rest and/or a deload period for a few weeks now. With being out of town a few days and then this week’s misses, that ended up happening on it’s own. Today I was bright eyed and bushy tailed when the alarm went off so Leg Day it was. Turns out the time off served well as I felt very strong today on the power squat and did a few good, heavy sets of one-leg leg press.

Got home right at 6, my daughter apparently woke up around 4:30 and had moved her elephant snoring self into our bed with my wife. Thankfully I was able to sneak in and grab the monitor for James without disturbing either and they ended up sleeping until 7:00am. James was already rolling around so him and I played together quietly in his room for almost an hour.

Normally for Isla’s breakfast she’ll want an avocado or banana…today she blurts out “PANCAKES!” I don’t have any pancake mix and definitely didn’t feel like making them before taking her to school, but luckily I remembered I had some leftover sheet-pan pancakes in the freezer. I’ve found the best way to reheat these is straight from frozen on the defrost setting of the microwave. Only takes about 2 minutes and they come back to life.

For BWTB (Breakfast With The Boys), I just had some egg whites, a toasted bagel (half PB and half jelly), a few pieces of leftover bacon and a protein shake. James was fiending for cantaloupe and had some egg whites also. After breakfast I did made some calls for work then James and I went outside. This past weekend I used my new TieToc little handheld chainsaw to start round 2 of clearing my back wood line. That thing is the tits. ( https://amzn.to/4izHcUX ) Battery life leaves a little to be desired but it was totally useable, I got the one that came with two batteries so swapping and charging was no issue. I did most of what is in these pictures off 1 battery. For any normal amount of work there are zero complaints. I actually can’t wait to get back out there and use it more. Highly recommend especially at the price point. Several friends have battery chainsaws that are name brand because they have tons of various batteries but I didn’t want to spend the few hundred bucks on a name brand saw just to use my Dewalt or Ryobi batteries.

While we were outside James became enamored with the “barbie” jeep, he can’t drive it yet but loves climbing all over it. While he was preoccupied and safe I started moving the brush I had cut over to where I’ll burn it soon. I was actually planning on burning today but there’s a storm blowing in and the wind is whipping already.

After switching some laundry around and taking about an hour for work, I seasoned up a pork tenderloin to bake in the oven for some Carnitas taco meat. This turned out super good and I went ahead and had some for early lunch. I’m trying to eat 5 meals a day so 2-3 smaller lunches are squeezed in between breakfast and dinner. 2 tacos (about 125g of pork) with the greek yogurt and normal (not low-carb) tortillas added up to:

The afternoon held some more food and work. Chicken, rice and zucchini…emails and calls. James tends to sleep for about 3 hours so I try to capitalize on this time for work as much as possible. A couple days a week when he starts waking up I tag in my babysitter (read: Mother in law). This grabs me another few hours that I can run errands, work, etc before going to pick up Isla from school.

Side note: I made falafel for the first time last night. Nailed it, it was really awesome. I had two concerns going in: that they would be dry and crumbly, and/or they would lack flavor. They were neither. Totally awesome texture and flavor was ON POINT. I left some at check-in at the school for my buddy to pick up when he dropped off his kid later and he called me raving about them as well. These are 100% going in the rotation for greek night. I’m considering making a quadruple batch and freezing them just to have for quick access. I’m going to test out a few other methods of frying to see if I can get around having to fill a pot with oil just for that. Check them out here: XXXX- Homemade Falafel -XXXX

Also, I think I’ve got French Onion Soup dialed in, these awesome crocks to serve it in can be found here: ( https://amzn.to/49yg0BK ) : Dialed In French Onion Soup
