Baked Apples – Use It Up

For the past few weeks my daughter has been inhaling apples. Well, they go on BOGO sale about 10 days ago so I bought 2 bags. Magically, she doesn’t want apples anymore. I noticed that they had started to develop some soft spots so into the oven they go!

When I think of baked apples I think of Cracker Barrel. They’re so memorable for me because something they use in the recipe used to tear my gut up and I’d always have to go to the bathroom before we left. TMI, sorry.

Anyway, I used about 8-10 apples. Cut out the bad spots, peeled and sliced. Don’t worry about perfection here, just get it done and into the pan. You can do this all in the same baking dish and literally make it a one-pot style.

Baked Apples

Easy, and yummy. Nothing else to it.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 50 minutes
Total Time 1 hour
Course Dessert
Servings 8

Ingredients

  • 8-10 Count Apples Red (any style) or green
  • 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1-2 Tsp Cinammon
  • 1/4 Tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 TBSP Cornstarch
  • 1 Stick Butter Unsalted

Instructions

  • Peel, and slice the apples (don't forget about cutting around the core)
  • Mix together the other ingredients and toss the apple slices in them until fully coated. If you have 8 apples, these measurements of spices and sugar should leave you nearly nothing left in the bowl.
  • SPRAY the pan. I used a 9×13 glass dish. Can be done in 8×8 also, might just need to adjust the time given the apples are stacked higher. ADD the apple mixture
  • Top with pads of butter, cover with foil and bake at 350 for approximately an hour. Time doesn't matter a whole lot, as long as they're soft they're fine. I've done as long as nearly 2 hours, they just get quite a bit mushy.
